Novelist Ernest Hemingway is known as a master of clear, concise, writing. He shunned adverbs. He never used long words when a short one sufficed. His sentences were short and declarative.

A new app, called Hemingway, helps users pare their prose. It points out complicated sentences, useless words, and passive voice phrases. It also gives passages a clarity ranking. (This post was ranked “Good.”)
