Feeling stressed due to work? You’re not alone.

In today’s fast-paced environment where you’re plugged into the office 24/7, it’s easy to carry work stress home. But not taking a break can negatively impact your mental and physical health, and ironically, your work performance.

So it’s time to let go of work stress this weekend, says blogger Melissa J. Anderson of The Glass Hammer.

Still not convinced? Here are three reasons.

1. You’ll feel better

Switching off after work means “higher levels of psychological well-being,” finds Sabine Sonnentag of the University of Mannheim. This includes being more satisfied with life, less emotional exhaustion, and decreased psychological strain.

2. You’ll sleep better

“[Study] participants felt more content and cheerful and less fatigued and depleted at bedtime when they experienced greater detachment from work in the evening,” finds Sonnentag.

3. You’ll manage work and stress better

When you leave stress at work, you’ll come back refreshed and able to approach tasks more proactively.

So this weekend, take a load off. Spend time with family and friends, read a good book, watch a movie, or leisurely surf advisor.ca. Don’t worry; the office will still be there Monday.
