It looked for signs that employees cared about each other, whether through having a homey environment at work, stopping by with a cup of coffee for a colleague, or throwing someone a birthday party. Read: Avoid these conference call pitfalls When colleagues show that they care about each other’s work and personal issues, employees are more engaged in their work, the study shows. They also have lower levels of absenteeism and burnout. And, in workplaces that lack compassionate love, the study shows that you can go through the motions and still get the benefits.
