He spends most of his days reading company documents closely to get ahead of other investors. He also likes a good book. BI compiled some of his favourites, as mentioned in interviews over the years. The text that laid the groundwork for Buffett’s success is The Intelligent Investor, by Benjamin Graham. He read it when he was 19, and it’s guided his investment decisions since. Another of Graham’s books, Security Analysis has also had a lasting impact on his investing style. Another writer Buffett respects is Philip Fischer, who argues in his anthology Common Stocks and Uncommon Profits that investors should evaluate company management just as they analyze financial statements. Also named are books by former Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, GE executive Jack Welch, and private equity investor William N. Thorndike. Of course, Buffett’s own book of essays, Lessons for Corporate America, is on the list too. Read more here. Staff The staff of Advisor.ca have been covering news for financial advisors since 1998.
