Emerging markets aren’t doing too well these days and there’s a few reasons why, says Financial Times.

FT personal finance editor Jonathan Eley notes China’s consumption and construction slowdown hurts countries like Brazil, Russia and parts of Africa, economies that depend on exporting natural resources to the Asian powerhouse. Meanwhile, closer to home, Eley says Americans saving for retirement are playing it safe with reliable homegrown stocks like GE and Apple.
