Scotiabank has announced the appointment of Troy Wright to the position of executive vice-president, retail distribution, in its Canadian Banking division, effective July 18, 2011, shifting him from his current position as CEO of Scotiabank de Puerto Rico.

“While he has significant experience in the Canadian market, Troy has been instrumental in developing our operations in Mexico and Puerto Rico and I look forward to his contribution to our Canadian Banking business,” said Rick Waugh, Scotiabank president and CEO.

Wright will be responsible for the operations and profitability of the Canadian retail and small business customer distribution channels.

In addition to his most recent position as CEO of Scotiabank de Puerto Rico, Wright has completed a number of cross divisional assignments that position him well for this leadership role, including senior vice-president of mergers and acquisitions for International Banking; senior vice-president of commercial banking in Canada and senior vice-president of capital markets for Scotiabank Mexico.
