Mendes now reports to Desjardins vice-president and chief economist Jimmy Jean, Desjardins said Monday. “We’ll be gradually growing the Toronto team to cover regional analysis and fiscal policy, further strengthening Desjardins’s economic expertise,” Jean said in a release. “Royce Mendes’s solid macro experience and his excellent communication and analytical skills make him the ideal person for this position.” In addition to his recent role at CIBC Capital Markets, Mendes was previously associate editor for the Bank of Canada’s Financial System Review and principal researcher at the central bank’s financial markets department. Mendes has a BA from Western University in London, Ont. and a master of finance from the Smith School of Business at Queen’s University in Kingston. He is a chartered financial analyst.
