Rich PE firms eye Calgary

Two new private equity firms may be moving to Calgary to make a play for investors who want into the oil patch, reports the National Post.

Last year, capital market financing in Canada was down 30% from 2012, the Post reports. Private equity could move in to fill the gap.

Heavyweight firm Kohlberg Kravis Robert and Co. has announced plans to open an Alberta office, while New York firm Evercore Partners is also looking to open a Calgary branch. Another NYC firm, Pinebrook Partners, has a Team Canada at it’s headquarters that’s looking for an entrance to the country.

The Post says money is flowing back into oil and gas after a dry patch last year.
