Until Sunday. Granted, it’s not a huge announcement—in fact, it’s a reiteration of a budget promise—but the Conservatives have offered a $500 tax credit toward children’s arts programs. It seems ballet has caught up to hockey on the list of priorities. The program is reminiscent of the one offered by the provincial government of Ontario, which offers a maximum $50 credit for children’s activities, including arts and sports. It has been nice to see the three main national parties getting along so well together, sharing platform planks. So far we have the NDP trumping the Conservatives on small business tax cuts, and the Liberals pledging to double GIS payments just days before the NDP made the same promise.
