Pozen, Forbes featured at IDA conference

(June 11, 2004) The former vice-chair of Fidelity Investments and the editor-in-chief of Forbes magazine are among the keynote speakers at next week’s IDA conference, scheduled for next week in Mont Tremblant, Quebec.

Bob Pozen, who recently retired from Fidelity, will discuss the current crisis in the U.S. mutual fund industry, while Steve Forbes will speak on the U.S. economy and the role of tax policy in promoting business productivity.

The conference begins Sunday, June 13 with the annual shotgun golf tournament. The speakers’ program is set for Monday, June 14, and Tuesday, June 15.

Other presenters include Princeton University professor Harold James; Donald Coxe, chair of Harris Investment Management; Robert Hormats, vice-chair of Goldman Sachs International; and Earl Bederman of Investor Economics.

IDA senior vice-president Ian Russell will present his annual report on the state of the Canadian brokerage industry while IDA president Joe Oliver and chair Kym Anthony will also deliver speeches.

The regulators’ panel this year includes OSC chair David Brown, Stephen Sibold of the Alberta Securities Commission, Doug Hyndman of the British Columbia Securities Commission and Jean St-Gelais, head of Quebec’s Autorité des march´s financiers.

The theme of this year’s conference is “Mapping A New Financial Landscape.”

For the second year in a row, the IDA is also staging a one-day private client day on Saturday, June 12. Speakers include Bederman, Standard Life’s Bernard Letendre, Gordon Higgins of Sentry Select and syndicated Quebec newspaper columnist Alain Dubuc.
