Barbara Hooper, senior vice-president of treasury and enterprise strategy with TD Bank, has been tagged to lead Canadian business banking at the bank, beginning April 30, an internal memo said. That’s when longtime head Paul Douglas will step down from daily operations. The memo noted that Kelvin Tran, senior executive vice-president and chief financial officer, will have an expanded mandate. Laura Dottori-Attanasio, senior executive vice-president and group head for Canadian personal and business banking with CIBC, will retire on Feb. 1 after 14 years with the bank. Jon Hountalas, who joined the bank in 2010 and is currently group head for Canadian commercial banking and wealth management, will succeed her as leader of the personal and business banking operations. At Mawer Investment Management Ltd., Craig Senyk and Jim Hall swapped roles as of Jan. 16. Senyk was president for four years and has been with the firm for 25 years, while Hall served as the board chairman for nearly 15 of his 26 years, a release said. Hall will now fill the role of president and focus on “operational aspects,” as well as remain portfolio manager of the Mawer EAFE Large-Cap strategy. Hall said in the release that the change is best for the firm’s growth, with Senyk’s decades of experience making him the best choice to lead the board. Wenzel Hoberg was named global head of real estate, effective Jan. 16, with Fiera Capital Corp. During his 25 years in the real estate industry, Hoberg has held senior positions with several real estate investment firms, and his industry tenure includes nearly nine years with the CPP Investment Board as managing director of real estate investments, Europe. Dervla Tomlin will transition from chief actuary with Great-West Lifeco Inc. to chief risk officer, effective Feb. 13. She was appointed chief actuary in 2015, and she’ll retain some responsibility for the company’s actuarial activities as a result of the appointed actuary reporting to her. Tomlin has 30 years’ experience in the insurance industry, a release said, including as chief risk officer and chief actuary with Lifeco subsidiary Irish Life. The Investment Industry Association of Canada (IIAC) has added two new individuals to its group of advisors — industry experts who advise on issues impacting investors and markets. Martin Guest, former senior vice-president and general counsel Canada with Manulife, and Gerry O’Mahoney, founder and principal with Oakville, Ont.–based Tralee Capital Markets Ltd., join more than 10 other industry veterans who have been advising the IIAC since this past fall. David Dominy (chairman and CEO with Edmonton, Alta.–based 3D Capital Inc.), Ernie Daniels (president and CEO of the First Nations Finance Authority) and Shelley Williams (a CPA with corporate finance and capital markets experience) are now directors on the board of the Bank of Canada (BoC). The BoC also announced recently that Nicolas Vincent (a professor of economics with HEC Montréal) is its new external non-executive deputy governor for a term of two years, effective March 13 and succeeding Timothy Lane, who departed in September. Harjeet Sangha joined Stenner Wealth Partners+ of CG Wealth Management in Vancouver, effective Jan. 9, coming from Scotiabank where he was a portfolio manager with Scotia Private Investment Counsel. A statement from Stenner Wealth Partners+ said Sangha has more than 15 years of experience and was responsible for more than $500 million in assets in his prior roles.
