The IDA has released a list of approved courses for voluntary participation in the association’s continuing education program.

Under IDA bylaws, individuals may extend the validity periods of the Canadian Securities Course and the Conduct and Practices Handbook Exam through volunteer participation in the CE program.

In the first two three-year CE cycles, all courses administered by the CSI were accepted by the IDA for voluntary participation. However, last year the IDA amended that policy, deciding that only certain courses would be acceptable.

Here are the courses that will be recognized by the IDA for voluntary participation in Cycle 3, which runs until the end of 2008.

  • Branch Managers Course (CSI)
  • CE Compliance Course (including CPH for professionals) (CSI)
  • Certified Investment Management Analysts Course (IMCA)
  • CFP Exam (FPSC)
  • Chartered Financial Analyst program (each level) (CFA Institute)
  • Derivatives Fundamentals Course (CSI)
  • Ethics Module and Case Study (CSI)
  • Investment Dealers Securities Compliance and Supervision Training Program (Justice Institute of British Columbia)
  • Investment Management Techniques (CSI)
  • IQPF Professional Training Course (IQPF)
  • Partners, Directors and Senior Officers Qualifying Exam (CSI)
  • Personal Financial Planning Course (ICB)
  • Portfolio Management Techniques (CSI)
  • Professional Financial Planning Course (CSI)
  • Wealth Management Essentials (CSI)
  • Wealth Management Techniques (CSI)

Additional courses may be added to the list, the IDA says, also noting that courses not appearing on the list, but which did previously qualify, will be accepted for fulfillment of voluntary participation in CE cycles one and two.
