The government has created 36,000 new student jobs through its Canada Summer Jobs Initiative.

This new program contributes to the pre-existing Canada’s Youth Employment Strategy, to which Budget 2013 proposed to allocate an addition $70 million in funding over the next three years.

These extra funds would allow companies to provide 5,000 paid internships.

“Creating summer jobs benefits…local economies across the country,” says the Diane Finley, minister of Human Resources and Skills Development.
