Suyi Kim has been appointed senior managing director and global head of private equity at the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, effective Sept. 15.

Kim will lead CPP Investments’ global private equity department, which manages more than $125 billion in assets and has relationships with 160 private equity fund managers and other specialized partners, according to a release.

Kim joined CPP Investments in 2007 and served most recently as senior managing director and head of Asia Pacific. She opened the pension plan’s Hong Kong office in 2008.

Prior to joining CPP Investments, Kim had roles at the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan and the Carlyle Group, and also worked for McKinsey & Co. in various Asian countries.

“Suyi’s background in private equity, extensive experience leading our Asia Pacific business and deep knowledge of the organization makes her ideally suited for this role, and demonstrates the depth of our leadership team,” John Graham, president and CEO of CPP Investments, said in a statement.
