CSA launches youth contest

(February 4, 2008) The Canadian Securities Administrators have invited Canadian youth to participate in the Financial Fitness Challenge, a contest that runs from February 4 to February 29, 2008.

The goal of the contest, which consists of online games, tips, a quiz and interactive simulations, is to make finance “cool.”

“Young people have a thirst for learning about saving and investing information, especially at an age where they hold their first part-time or summer jobs,” said Jean St-Gelais, chair of the CSA and president and CEO of Quebec’s Autorité des marchés financiers.

Last year saw more than 12,000 young people take part, and organizers boast that interest in personal finance rose from 33% of those entering the contest to 62% at the end of the challenge.
