(August 18, 2008) The Investment Industry Regulatory Association of Canada has issued notice of a hearing in Vancouver into the actions of Yuan Jun Fan, at the time a registered representative with the Vancouver Park Place Branch of RBC Dominion Securities.

The respondent allegedly engaged in an off-book securities transaction with a client (G.L.) that involved the pair sharing in profits, with the adviser guaranteeing G.L.’s investment.

The respondent failed to co-operate with IIROC staff, providing false, inaccurate and/or incomplete information. The hearing will be held August 25 through August 28, 2008.

Rice expansion approved

(August 18, 2008) Rice Financial Group has received regulatory and court approval to acquire certain assets of Farm Mutual Financial Services Inc., including the right to advise on approximately $300 million in client assets.

“This transaction is another step in our ongoing expansion in Ontario,” said Dave Velanoff, Rice Financial’s president and CEO. “We are excited about the opportunity to serve our new clients.”

The deal brings more than 30 advisors into Rice Financial’s existing operations in Ontario. The transaction was originally announced on August 7, 2008.
