Briefly: “Desjardins names new wealth head” and more news

Denis Berthiaume will join the Desjardins Group as senior vice-president and general manager of wealth management and life and health insurance, commencing September 7. Berthiaume will succeed Bruno Morin, who will retire on December 31, after 38 years with the firm.

Berthiaume will manage a team of about 4,800 people that handle manufacturing, life and health insurance, and specialized savings products. The team also oversees marketing for the sector’s activities to support the caisse network and the back-office services, it was stated in a press release.

“Throughout his career, Mr. Berthiaume acquired extensive knowledge of the financial services industry and of its challenges,” said Monique F. Leroux, chair of the board, president and CEO of Desjardins Group. “His vast experience, notably in the Canadian savings markets, will allow him to develop the activities of Desjardins Group’s wealth management and life and health insurance sector to increase its major role not only in Quebec, but throughout the country.”

Standard Life wins big at I.F.C.A Awards

The Standard Life Assurance Company of Canada won a total eight awards at the annual 2010 Insurance and Financial Communicators Association (I.F.C.A.) Awards, which acknowledge excellence in marketing and communications creativity, design and writing in the financial services industry. The awards will be presented at the October 2010 I.F.C.A. conference in Montreal.

Standard Life won the Best of Show Award for its advertising message, “When we see the potential for growth, we invest.” The company was also awarded four Awards of Excellence, and three honourable mentions for its communication materials.

“Each year, we strive to find innovative ways to communicate and interact with our customers, advisors and other stakeholders,” said Vincenzo Ciampi, vice-president of external communications and public affairs at Standard Life. “These eight awards are the results of a constant effort, of the exceptional teamwork and dedication by our people.”
