(November 20, 2007) Jovian Capital Corp. has announced the appointment of David Bird as president and CEO of subsidiary MGI Securities Inc., succeeding Lewis Reford.

“MGI has recently completed a lengthy review of its operations, the result of which has been a shift in strategic thinking and focus,” said John Stevens, chairman of the board of MGI. “We are very fortunate to have someone of David Bird’s calibre and experience to lead MGI and implement the new strategy.

Bird has more than 20 years of experience in the North American capital markets, financing both public and private companies and building and managing investment dealer operations. He has been a director of MGI since May 2007.

MFDA settles with Moro

(November 20, 2007) An MFDA hearing panel has approved a settlement agreement between the SRO and John A. Moro, withholding its written reasons for the time being.

Moro was found to be in possession of 44 blank pre-signed trading forms in respect of eight client accounts despite being cautioned in November 2004. He is known to have used such forms on 16 occasions.

Under the terms of the agreement, Moro surrenders his registration as branch manager of JDM Financial Ltd., of which he is also sole owner and president. He is prohibited from acting in a supervisory capacity with a member of the MFDA for a period of two years.

Moro must also rewrite the appropriate proficiency examination prior to becoming re-registered in any supervisory capacity with a member of the MFDA. He must also pay a fine of $5,000 and $2,500 in costs.

VentureLink appoints new sales VP

(November 20, 2007) VentureLink LP, the manager of VentureLink Group of LSIFs, has announced the appointment of Judy Street as vice-president, sales, for Southwestern Ontario.

Street comes to VentureLink from First Trust Portfolios LP, and is a 12-year veteran of the finance industry. Street will take over the territory from managing partner John Varghese.

“Judy is an enormous asset to the VentureLink team, and we are excited to have her on board,” said Brian Fraser, senior vice-president, sales. “Judy also has a strong marketing background assisting advisors to grow their business.”
