(August 25, 2008) On Monday, AGF launched its new Harmony Non-traditional Pool, which gives investors access to non-traditional global investments such as infrastructure, water, agriculture, oil sands, mining and real estate, in a managed assets program.

The investment option, along with three other Harmony pools and four Harmony portfolios, will be offered as part of the Harmony Tax Advantage Group, a mutual fund corporation that allows investors to switch between different corporate classes without triggering immediate tax consequences.

“At AGF, we recognize investors’ needs are evolving and that fund companies must deliver products that meet those needs,” says AGF Funds president, Randy Ambrosie. “In launching the new non-traditional pool and the corporate classes within Harmony Tax Advantage Group, AGF is proactively addressing our clients’ desire for tax efficiency and risk management.”

Wilshire Associates will continue to provide advice and recommendations to AGF’s Harmony program and will help construct the Non-traditional Pool asset allocation.

TD contest offers $2,000 to students

(August 25, 2008) A couple of thousand dollars can go a long way for a cash-strapped student, so TD Canada Trust’s latest contest — they’re giving away $2,000 to 5 students — should see an influx of entrants.

To enter, students must create a video that’s one minute or less, explaining why they should win the prize. When the video is accepted, entrants will receive a link they can send to family and friends, who must then vote for the submissions. People can also vote directly on the TD Money Lounge Facebook group.

Seven second-place prizes of $500 will also be awarded.

Besides voting, students can go to the TD Money Lounge group and utilize a number of useful tools, including a program that helps students budget for the year, a tool to help roommates keep track of bills, and a list of tips to help keep university life fun, and in the red.
