BMO Capital Markets has announced the hiring of senior investment banker Eric Luftig as managing director in its leveraged finance group in New York City.

“Eric’s experience in private placements, including 20 years of solid deals, complements our team’s overall mandate as we look to broaden our lead role participation in the leveraged financing arena,” said Jim Moglia, executive managing director and co-head of the BMO Capital Markets leveraged finance group.

Luftig’s investment banking experience over the last two decades includes senior roles at GE Capital Markets and CIBC World Markets.

BoC appoints two advisors

The Bank of Canada has appointed two new advisors to the central bank, who will provide fresh perspective to monetary policy discussions.

David Wolf, head of Canadian economics and chief strategist with Banc of America Securities-Merrill Lynch in Toronto, has been appointed to a permanent position, and will join the Bank on June 1, 2009.

Jean Boivin, chair in monetary policy and financial markets at the Institute of Applied Economics at Montreal’s HEC business school, will join the Bank in September 2009 for a term as special advisor.
