While she’s technically had all the powers of the Fed chair since Ben Bernanke ended his term on Feb. 1, she is being officially sworn in by senior member of the Fed board governor Daniel Tarullo this morning. Yellen, 67, is the first women to become head of the Federal Reserve. She is leaving her old post as the Fed’s vice chair. As head, she’ll be busy overseeing the Fed’s future taper decisions, and managing interest rate and inflation worries. She is expected to continue the Fed’s policy of maintaining low interest rates while scaling back its stimulus programs as the economy improves.
