Janet Yellen defended the Federal Reserve’s stimulus program during a Senate hearing today, reports The Washington Post.

At the start of the hearing, it adds, Yellen stated the U.S. economy is stronger today than it was when the recession began six years ago.

She pointed to the improving housing and auto markets, but also said the country’s high unemployment rate shows the economy is still performing below its potential. Read her statement.
