Why emerging markets are slowing, and more: BoC autumn report

The Bank of Canada has released its 2016 autumn review. It offers details on:

  • the role of central banks in financial stability;
  • commodity-price super cycles;
  • changes to the Bank’s emergency lending assistance policy; and
  • the Bank’s market operations and liquidity provision.

In a section on emerging markets, the report says those markets account for 60% of world domestic product, but that their growth has slowed since the financial crisis. Structural reform launched by the G20 in 2009 helps fuel growth, but only so long as countries have supportive fiscal and monetary policies in place.
