Walmart agrees to pay 1 cent more to field workers

Tomato harvesters in Florida have struck a deal with Walmart, the largest private food buyer in the U.S., giving workers a penny more per pound of tomato, reports Mother Jones.

The concession is one of the latest in the workers’ battle for a living wage. They’ve also struck deals with Chipotle Grill, YUM brands, Burger King and McDonalds. Grocery stores Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s have also signed on, reports Mother Jones.

The push predates the wider movement in the U.S. service industry advocating for a higher minimum wage.
