Virgin Galactic to accept bitcoins

Those heading to space with Virgin Galactic can now pay for their flight using the digital currency bitcoin, Virgin head Richard Branson said today.

A woman from Hawaii has already used bitcoin to pay for her flight, the company says.

Branson notes he’s invested in bitcoins, and thinks the concept of an online currency is fascinating.

A university in Cyprus is also accepting bitcoins as a way for foreign students to pay their tuition without the hassle of exchange, the Associated Press reports.

The U.S. Justice department and the Treasury sold Senators at a government hearing this week that Bitcoins are a promising currency.
