As part of that strategy, Morneau revealed the appointment of Dominic Barton, global managing director of McKinsey and Co., as chairman of a new Advisory Council on Economic Growth. The additional members of the council have yet to be chosen, but Morneau says the group will report regularly to him on how to create policy that will help boost the Canadian economy and the middle class.

For his part, Barton became head of McKinsey & Co. in 2011, and he was re-elected as managing director in 2015. Read more on how Barton got started at the company.
