Hockey generates more than $11 billion in economic activity for Canada, reports Sportsnet.

That figure is from Ice Hockey In Canada, 2015 Impact Study: The Economic, Social, Community and Sport Benefits of Canada’s Favourite Game, written by a Canadian researcher at Ohio University.

Professor Norm O’Reilly examined the impact players, coaches, clubs, leagues, tourism organizations, governments and corporate sponsors had on the wider economy.

More than $1 billion goes into Canadian towns with less than 100,000 people.
