Former PM Martin to advise Ontario on provincial pension

Former Prime Minister Paul Martin will advise the Ontario Liberal government on establishing a provincially-run pension, reports the National Post.

As Canada’s finance minister under Prime Minister Jean Chrétien, Martin helped reform the Canada Pension Plan in the 1990s.

The provinces had asked Ottawa to expand the CPP, but the federal government is not in favour of the idea, reports NP. Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne said she would have preferred a national pension solution, but in the absence of one, Ontario would be going forward with its own plans.
