EU-Canada deal to be blueprint for U.S. pact

Canada’s long-awaited trade deal with the European Union is a breakthrough for the EU’s trade plans, reports Reuters.

The EU estimates trade between the two regions will increase by one-fifth to $35 billion a year.

The two governments have been working on a trade deal since spring 2009. They had hit impasses over imports of Canadian beef and European cheese, and the role of domestic subsidies. The deal has resolved those conflicts.

The deal will also set the standard for an even larger agreement between the Eurozone and America, says Reuters.
