Canada’s long-term unemployment still high

While some aspects of Canada’s economy have been improving, long-term unemployment isn’t budging, reports Canadian Business.

In 2009, the number of people without a job for more than a year doubled, from 40,000 to 80,000. It the long-term jobless population continued to grow, peaking at 120,000 in 2011.

There are now fewer people who are unemployed for between 27 and 51 weeks than at the peak of the recession, reports CB. But long-term joblessness continues to be far higher than before the recession. So far in 2014, it’s still above 80,000.
