Cameron says kids should learn Mandarin

Forget French or German, UK Prime Minister David Cameron says children should learn Mandarin in school, the Financial Times reports.

Cameron has just returned from a three-day trip to China to promote trade between the two countries.

“By the time the children born today leave school, China is set to be the world’s largest economy. So it’s time to look beyond the traditional focus on French and German and get many more children learning Mandarin,” said Cameron.

Britain’s international education and cultural studies organization has also recently announced an initiative to double the number of Mandarin learners in the country to 400,000, reports FT.
