The vast majority of Canadians (97.8%) completed the long form of the 2016 Census–the overall collection response rate for both the short- and long-form was 98.4%.

Canada’s long-form census captures data such as household income, housing patterns and employment information. This information is used to determine economic conditions, forecast job opportunities and help the government decide where to allocate resources.

“The 2016 Census will provide high-quality information for virtually all communities across Canada,” says Statistics Canada’s chief statistician Wayne R. Smith in a release. “This [is] the best census since 1666.”

First results from the 2016 Census will be published on February 8, 2017, with the release of data on population and dwelling counts. The organization will also launch an accelerated release schedule.
