Travellers to Shanghai, Beijing and other bogged-down cities will be compensated if the air pollution index goes above either 100 or 200 for at least two days. They’re entitled to up to $8 (50 yuan) a day, and premiums are $1.60 (10 yuan) a day. China Daily notes that it won’t be hard for tourists to claim compensation, as in the last month, Shanghai had 17 days of air pollution above 100, while in Beijing, there were nine days of air pollution above 200.
